After this technical stop, at 1.08 local time on April 15, the Norge airship releases from the mast and flies over the sleeping city, heading towards the Soviet Union.
Going up, the crew notices a thick fog that covers the Oslofjord and the sea all around. The airship rises above the cloud cover but has to proceed in navigation by estimating its position without having the opportunity to observe the ground. Advancing in this way, the NORGE crosses the Baltic Sea, arriving, with various uncertainties, at Valga, in Estonia.
